In challenging times, B&G Clubs still see results

Date: Friday, April 24, 2009

The boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County kicked off its annual Chrysalis Ball at a launch party hosted at the new Bob and Joy Darling Boys & Girls Club in Frisco.

Debbie and Jerry Lewis of Plano are chairing the event with last year’s chairs, Rosanne and von Best of Frisco, and a 50-member committee that includes Jean Callison of Plano, Richard and Cathy Riccardi of Fairview, Todd and Deb Abrams of Frisco and Kim Williams of McKinney. W. Donnie Brown of Bravo’s Who’s Wedding is it Anyway? Returns for the third year as event planner.

CEO Tanya Greene noted that in challenging economic times, it’s good to know the Collin B&G Clubs have documented results. “We are proud to report that Club kids have a 98 percent graduation rate, zero teen pregnancies and zero juvenile incarcerations,” she said.

FAYABLES

Debbie Slade-Smith said she told four friends about the frightening statistics of a one-time $25 membership fee to join the Clubs or $270,000 for a drop out over a lifetime, and each of them gave her $100 and said, “I want to take care of membership fees for four kids for the year.”

Call Caralee Gurney at 972-824-2596 regarding tickets or sponsorships for the Oct. 24 ball at Embassy Suites in Frisco. Proceeds will benefit life-changing and often life-saving after-school programs provided each year to almost 5,000 kids, many of them at-risk.
