McKinney Wal-Marts announce Boys and Girls Clubs as beneficiaries of annual Golf Classic tournament

March 1, 2007, McKinney, Texas - In a strong belief to support the community for which it serves, Wal-Mart locations at McKinney Ranch Pkwy , Redbud Blvd., and Custer Road have teamed together for a second year to produce their annual "McKinney Wal-Mart Golf Classic" tournament. The tournament will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 on the Hills Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club with proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County.

Wal-Mart continues to make significant contributions to McKinney and Collin County both as a leading retailer and supporter of the local community and non-profit organizations. The golf tournament supports a different organization each year. The 2006 beneficiary was the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney.

"We are strong supporters of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin county due to the company's investment in educating today's youth," Brent Allen, store manager of the Wal-Mart on Redbud Blvd., said. "Their ongoing effort to support the disadvantaged children of Collin County has provided the opportunity for the BGCCC to reach out to more 3,800 children in the past year."

The BGCCC is the largest child-serving agency in Collin County through incredible out-reach and after-school programs," Christina Alford, chief executive officer of BGCCC, said. "Our youth development strategy of fostering a sense of belonging, competence and usefulness underlies all our programs, building self-confidence and self-esteem for all our members."

Approximately 52% of the children served at most Boys and Girls Clubs come from families earning less than $25,000 per year. The only cost to a family is a $25 per child membership fee.

"No child is ever turned away if a family is unable to pay," Alford said. "This is why fundraising events such as the McKinney Wal-Mart Golf Classic and generous supporters like Brent Allen and Loren Brown are crucial to success the BGCCC organization and instrumental in the lives of so many children."

The 2007 Wal-Mart Golf Classic will be ran in a shotgun scramble format and includes a fabulous day of golf with great food and exciting tee gifts and raffles for unique and valuable prizes. The fundraising goal is set at $75,000 with many corporate sponsors already slated to participate. 2007 tournament hosts include Alford, Allen, Loren Brown, and Chris Kappes, store manager of the Custer Rd. location.

Sponsorship and player forms can be picked up at either Wal-Mart locations (McKinney Ranch Pkwy, Redbud Blvd or Custer Road) as well as the BGCCC administrative offices located at 701 S. Church Street in McKinney . Deadline for sponsorship inclusion marketing materials and signage is March 30, 2007.
